My Recommendations for Parenting Books, Magnesium, and Sleep

One of the things I really enjoy is zoning out and researching how I can live a better life of make my son's life better. I listen to audio books, read websites, listen/talk in Facebook groups, and chat with friends about how to help ourselves parent better, and be better versions of ourselves. I'm full of tidbits of knowledge from all my learning, and I'm going to start sharing it here daily.   The general themes of things I'll share are:  food/supplements, parenting/autism,...

Books to Help Your Visual-Learning 2E Kid Thrive

My son has autism.

He also has a high IQ, with slow processing speed.

He is also tall for his age.

He also has blonde hair.

He has a lot of other traits as well.

We had his IQ tested at the Gifted Development Center in Denver in 2013 when he was 6 and a half.  It was part of the many things we did to help figure out how to best guide him.  He didn't cooperate much during the testing, but they were "pulled some tricks out of their sleeve" and were able to give him a "General Ability...

FOUR easy steps to start eating REAL FOOD now!

The health of the human race and the earth is declining rapidly, and it's time we do something about it.  We are ruining our soil by raising cattle in feed lots where they spend their days standing in their own waste and breathing the stench of it, while eating food that their bodies were not designed to digest.

We are planting massive amounts of genetically modified corn, soybeans, and cotton and then spraying it with chemicals so the soil yields more food. Then the water...

FIVE Must-Have Parenting Books for Special Needs Moms

Over the years, I have read all sorts of books, as Zane was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder at age 4, giftedness at age 7 and Autism Spectrum Disorder at age 7.

I'm constantly on the lookout for knowledge and I'm never without a an audio book (or 5) loaded onto my iPhone and a couple paperbacks by my bedside. I strive to parent Zane well, and to do that I realized I need to learn about myself and heal and grow.

So, my recommendations for parenting books include some books...

Recommendations: Your Body Stores Your Emotions

Your mind plays a big role in your disease and pain.  A bigger role than you realize. I have been exploring this in depth with my own health issues, and I have come to the conclusion that it is entirely true.  I admit, I was skeptical that my physical pains could have anything to do with my mind. These techniques and books have had a huge impact on my life:

TRE - Trauma Release Exercises

Doing a short series of physical exercises to fatigue the muscles of the legs and pelvis, then...

Real Food Ideas for Easy Kid Lunches

I was asked this question by a friend today, and I thought the answer might benefit you as well. We use (and LOVE) RealPlans for meal planning and grocery list and shopping prep.  So, I've entered in a "recipe" for Zane's school lunches that includes the typical things we send with him.  I take Zane shopping with me once a week after planning out our meals for the week, and that way we have everything we need when it comes to lunch time. Here's some of our typical lunch...

Vaccines, Autism, and the movie Vaxxed

I've been quiet about vaccines because I've been scared.

But, I can't stay quiet any more.

My son has autism and has impaired detox pathways. He hasn't been vaccinated. I'm sure that if he had been vaccinated per the CDC's recommended schedule, he would be severely disabled, non-verbal, or possibly dead. There's no question in my mind that bombarding the immune system of a tiny human who has impaired detoxification pathways with a barrage of toxins via a multi-disease vaccine can cause...

RECIPE: Kefir Water Soda

Omg, have you ever tried water kefir?  If you're new to fermented foods, it's the first place to start.  SO easy and so tasty.  The greatest thing about this yummy bubbly soda is that it doesn't taste fermented. Even my husband likes it, and that's saying something! I have tried making water kefir a few times before, and let me tell you, the quality of the grains matters.  They are what turns the sugar water from sugar water into a wonderful probiotic drink. I got my most...

RECIPE: Grain-Free Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Protein Bars

These are slightly sweet, chewy and delicious.  Don't be scared away by the gelatin protein powder.  I am usually turned off by the flavor of the natural gelatin, but I can't taste it in these AT ALL!   I had two big pieces of these bars with some bacon for breakfast this morning! I also included a bar in my son's lunch.

FYI, some links on my site are affiliate links.  It's my mission to get nutrient-dense, compassionately raised food into the mouths of everyone on...
